PICO PROJECTORS

 

We have just purchased a couple of Pico projectors to test out their popularity

They are the Optoma ML750 projector with light output of 950 ansi lumens  So far they have proved popular with artists who want to highlight a sculpture or a piece of artwork   

It uses lamp free LED technology, very small in size  (10cm x 4cm x 10cm)   Easy connectivity with micro SD card, HDMi,  USB stock and also a Kensington Lock socket.

Strengths of DLP Projectors:

 Smoother video

Pixels far less visible

More film-like on DVD and HDTV

Generate "blacker" blacks

Higher contrast

  

Disadvantages of DLP Projectors:

Poorer reds and yellows at full power

Colour saturation

Needs more lumens than LCD for rich colors, when dealing with ambient light

More moving parts (colour filter wheel)

Draws more power than LCD projection

What are ansi lumens?

This is a measurement of brightness defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

  

The method involves adjustments of brightness and contrast, measurements of a white field of nine spots on the screen and the averaging of the measurements multiplied by the screen area.

  

A brighter display will render images more clearly however, this is not a problem if you are using the projector to display bold sizeable text as in a Powerpoint presentation
